What You’re Worth | The Value of Human Dignity [Episode #010]

It’s our tenth episode! And this week we talk about what you are worth, the value of the human person, the movie Hidden Figures, and much much more!

We started by each sharing an experience we had this week: Ricky in an unexpected encounter with an elderly woman in need of help and Johana with some rude people at Disneyland! Both of these experiences showed us how important it is to value each and every person not by what they have or what they do, but by who they are.

“People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long course of the rivers, the compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering.” St. Augustine of Hippo

We believe that every person has value, no matter how much they have to offer to society. It doesn’t matter. The fact that they are our fellow human beings, created by God, gives them an innate human dignity which can’t be taken away by anything.

“The dignity of the human person is rooted in his creation in the image and likeness of God.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1700

Johana review the new movie Hidden Figures which deals with the topic of racism, sexism, and segregation back in the 1960’s during the space race. The theme of this innate value that we each share as human beings continues throughout and we talk about the fact that nobody is better or superior to anybody else.

“No one can be by nature superior to his fellows, since all men are equally noble in natural dignity.” Pope John XXIII (Pacem in Terris, No. 89)
